Abstract: Objective To analyze the research status, hot spots and frontier trends of the correlation between hepatic encephalopathy and gut microbiota over the past 20 years. Methods English literatures on the correlation between hepatic encephalopathy and gut microbiota were searched from the Web of Science (WOS) core database from January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2023. The bibliometric analysis software VOS viewer was used to analyze the countries, institutions, authors and hot spots and frontier directions in this research field. Results A total of 681 articles were retrieved, and the number of papers published gradually increased, Virginia Commonwealth University was the largest institution contributing to these publications. The United States, China and Italy were the largest countries, Bajaj JS was the highest author, and the《world journal of gastroenterology》was the most published journal in this field. The research focus can be summarized as hepatic encephalopathy, gut microbiota, liver cirrhosis, flora disorders and so on. Conclusion Through visual analysis of the hot spots and emerging trends in the study of the correlation between hepatic encephalopathy and gut microbiota, a more comprehensive reference was provided for the research in this field.
